[A/N: Another AU pet person story based on this meme!]
~
Leanne's neighbor, who lives in the house next to hers was an old lady who lives alone. One day she's beginning to see a tall young man with striking long colbalt hair and a pair of cat ears and a tail. He's one of those pet people where their roles is to live as companions side by side with humans.
The mystery man lives with the elderly lady and over the time, Leanne would often see him working for her by cutting his owner's lawn, helping out watering the flowers in her garden, driving his owner's car to bring home groceries, or when it's snowing, shoveling out snow. He cleans the house, and in the kitchen where Leanne can see them together through the window, he helps with the cooking.
Eventually, when they noticed each other and begin to talk over the fence, she learns his story. His name is Kanon and he was adopted by his owner from the shelter, whom he calls his adoptive mom. Before he was adopted, he was an orphaned stray who lost his family in a storm that flooded his area before the shelter people found him, almost dying from hypothermia. She adopted him because her own children have grown up and they moved out in another state, and they wouldn't come and travel to help her around the house.
One day, when Leanne returns home from work, there's a truck where she sees movers moving furniture out of the house, and the old lady's possessions being left out in the open. Kanon was sitting on the front steps in front of the house, on the steps, his tail swish lethargically side to side as he mourns for his owner, and when she peeked inside through the front door, the house is empty.
"Ah...my mother died yesterday." Kanon said, feeling both embarressed and sad at the state of the house and explaining what's going on. "So these guys are taking her stuff and the house will be put up for sale. Her children will come tomorrow to make arrangements for her funeral. As for me, I don't know where else to go. Otherwise I have to go back to the shelter." With a sigh, "It was very sudden. A heart attack. So she left no will and I can't legally own the house. I can't even afford it or pay mortgage."
The poor cat looks depressed, not suring what to do as he sat there, pouring his heart out to his neighbor.
