Heron days | locked to song_princess
[A/N: Another AU pet person story based on this meme!]

After the holy war ended, the world returned back to normal. Athena granted her saints their wishes to live out normal lives after they serve her for many years and had laid down their own lives down to protect humanity and uphold her ideals of peace and justice for all. Of course, no knew of the battle that has taken place as it was fought in another dimension and it wasn’t meant to be known by ordinary folks, but by humans who are predestined, their fate ordained by the stars to become soldiers and fight the wars waged by their gods.
Although Saga can choose to stay and protect the Gemini temple in Greece, he handed the mantle over to his twin brother Kanon, as he wanted the guardianship of the temple for a long time. Afterward, he travelled to another country to go to school and follow his dream to study. He rented out a dorm and lived there for many years while studying there, enjoying the peace that was hard fought for and they won. The university was close to a big metropolis city where on the weekends, he would go on a bus to travel there to shop around and work part-time odd jobs to make ends meet. The city is quite different than the wild, rural countryside of the woods that surrounded the Sanctuary in Greece.
It was during in his second year that he discovered a pet shop in front of the bus stop where he get off and it took him a while to understand that it’s quite common for people in the city to adopt pet persons for companionship, to have them work as cost effective domestic workers, or as family members. It was an odd aspect of humanity and their DNA engineering to meet the needs in the niche of humanity.
One day when he hopped off the bus and there, the same pet shop he always passed, there was a new pet for sale, the one that caught his eye with her smiles. She was advertised in the shop’s window as a heron princess who has the ability to sing and with a therapeutic touch and along with her siblings, she was up for sale and adoption. The shop owner intended to have her be adopted by owners with children and be a part of a family unit, but so far with her high price nobody adopted her and her siblings.
Saga sometimes visited her in the shop to say hello and talk to her, to help her ease her loneliness, and often encourage her to be hopeful for a family to adopt her. During that time he haven’t thought up the idea or have the intention to adopt her, thinking she’ll be better off with a well-to-do family.
Eventually, one day there was a sale and the store is offering discounts store-wide as part of an adoption event. At last, her siblings were being adopted off to good homes and when it’s becoming clear no one will adopt her. There was a bond being established between the two, Saga decided to adopt her while taking out a loan from a bank to pay for her fees. While it will puts him in debt for a few years, he didn't mind it, as he will pay it all off for her.
A few months passed as she lives with him in his small dorm room. While it wasn't his true home, it is neat and tidy and has more space and room to manuver around than the cage that came with her. He didn't have much money, as he earns from part-time jobs, and he didn't have much time as to whatever time he has left to spare, as he studies really hard to earn high grades to sustain his scholarship.
He always tries his best to meet her needs, getting to know her favorites, her likes, and dislikes, and eventually sharing the bed, and did his best to make her happy and be adequately pampered, and most importantly giving her, his time with her...which he don't have much of on most days.
Tonight is the night he usually came home late, usually from the long commute from work. He opened the door, took off his shoes, and announced that he's home. "Sorry, I'm late and kept you waiting." He said. "I'm going to make dinner for you now." As he brought home groceries in his hand, with lots of vegetables to cook with, and head toward to the kitchen.
